Nurses were gathered for a Peranakan-themed evening of recognition and commendation at the 5th Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award for Enrolled Nurses 2011.
Held at the National University Hospital on 18 November, the annual event seeks to recognise nurses, from both the private and public sector, for their exemplary efforts and dedication to Singapore’s nursing profession.
Starting out with a traditional Peranakan dance right after the award ceremony, the evening ended with a sumptuous dinner buffet for all invited guests that included Health Minister Gan Kim Yong.
Founded by the D. S. Lee Foundation, the Tan Chin Tuan Nursing Award was set up in memory of Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan, and is the highest accolade for enrolled nurses in Singapore.

“Being a nurse and caring for my patients and my staff best matches the divine design and calling in my life. I am privileged and honoured to be the first enrolled nurse from the private sector to win this award. It is really the fruit of my labour.”
- Ms. Doreen Chow Yuet Kuen, 1st Prize Winner from Mount Elizabeth Hospital -
