Have you ever wonder what is it about?
It is one of the largest Arts event in Singapore, which exhibits numerous contemporary art works at different locations in Singapore.
Now, let's have an appetizer for a great start of the Biennale!
Every art piece has its own story, it could be fictitious or real and normally the title or the author of the art piece allows us have a certain expectation.
For instance, if there is a warning sign of “spiritual”, and you saw it before entering to the room to have a look at the art piece, you could have an expectation of “feeling something”, this is wisely making use of human’s mind in interpreting the atmosphere of the art piece.
Dragon art piece shown in an “empty room”
Could you feel anything if you’re not told about the spiritual sign?
Some may have experienced some discomfort (heavy) and some may not experienced anything (empty), and hence it is the belief in us that lead us to where we think and feel.
During the observation session where we could walk around to choose an art piece to talk about, I have explored the entire block of art pieces which amazed me on how contemporary art could be; they were in many different types of forms and sizes.
One particular art piece which caught my eye was the one that included technology, my first impression was “wow!” it really looked like a waterfall, the words of different languages in mini pixels fell down slowly with some sort of pattern although it seemed to be random at first sight.
Simple yet smart combination of modern technology with emotional words
Convinced that contemporary art is awesome yet?
Not yet? There are more to make your jaws drop :D
Another favorite of the day, “buildings are piles of butter”, can you guess what is it about? It is architecture which links to history and the design of the different buildings were the ones who you will fall in love with!
Before we end this post, let us just see another piece of art work which depicted the wonderful combination of gentleness and roughness
Are you able to guess which of the followings are the gentle and rough materials?
The above photograph depicts a combination of metal and human’s hair.
It was really creative of the artist to use this combination to display female’s gentle and the male’s roughness. I have also learnt from the facilitators that it is of good luck in tradition to have hair to tie to the metal poles.
In conclusion, it was a fruitful experience to be able to widen my horizon for arts and in relation to imagination, beliefs, technology, buildings, history and traditions.
It had definitely been a good opportunity to expose myself to the different types of contemporary art; I am now a person with more artistic feel!
Thanks to Tan Chin Tuan Foundation who provided me with this opportunity to be able participated it and showed appreciation to arts.
Every art work has its very own story, and we make our own story :)
Singapore Biennale is from 13 March to 15 May 2011, hurry up and experience the wonders of Art!
